When applying, remove your jewelry, take a bath or shower (bath is ideal) and scrub down your skin with a washcloth and the Body Scrub. Pay special attention to scrubbing the skin on your knees and elbows. 8 Steps To Perfect Home Tanning

1. EXFOLIATE right before applying your home tanning lotions and gels.  Also, to regularly to avoid build up, soak in a tub for 20 mins and apply an exfoliating scrub with a washcloth at least twice a week.

2. WAX or SHAVE before tanning.  Ideally, it’s best to do it more than 24 hours before your tan.

3. MOISTURIZE. Once your skin is exfoliated and free of dead, dry skin, apply a quality moisturizer all over, especially to elbows, knees, ankles.  Moisturizing will help your tanner spread evenly and will not appear streaky or patchy.

4. WASH PALMS – try using latex gloves when applying to avoid tanning the inside of your palms. 

5. COVER ALL OVER.  Cover every part of your body when applying the sunless tanning products.  It is completely ok to cover the same area twice.  Do not worry about if the tanning lotion will be streaky of patchy if you double up.  That only happens if you miss spots.

6. DON’T RUB. Gently smoothing your bronzer tanning lotion is good enough. Rubbing too much can make the finish uneven.

7. LOOSE FITTING DARK CLOTHES. After applying your at home, sunless tanning lotion, put on dark clothing and avoid tight-fitting underwear. Anything that’s pressing on the skin may make the results a bit patchy.

Skin Cancer and Tanning Facts:

Our skin is our largest organ and I believe we really take it for granted.

Melanoma is the most aggressive of all skin cancer types and while only 5% of people diagnosed with skin cancer get Melanoma, it is responsible for nearly 100% of skin cancer deaths. (approx. 8000 per year).

Inside workers who get intermittent exposure to the sun actually have a higher incidence of skin cancer than outside workers who are exposed to sunlight regularly.  In addition, most skin cancers appear on parts of the body which get little sun exposure.  Therefore, it is difficult for researchers to determine if sun exposure is largely and directly responsible for cancer development.  

For example, although it is possible for anyone to get skin cancer, people of color typically get skin lesions in the palms of their hands and the soles of their feet where their skin has the least amount of melanin. The focus, therefore, seems to be more on genetics and where your skin is the fairest.

Basal cell carcinoma is more common to Latinos and Asians, Squamous cell carcinoma is more common to Blacks and Indians and Acral Lentiginous Melanoma is more common to White/Lightest skin types.

Other risk factors are also associated with melanoma, such as a family history, skin type and having a large number of sizable moles on the body. Like nonmelanoma skin cancer, melanoma can arise on any area of the body, regardless of whether or not a sunburn occurred in that location.

Skincancer.org says that the sun exposure pattern believed to result in melanoma is that of brief, intense exposure – a blistering sunburn – rather than years of tanning.

Either way, it is important to balance your tanning regimen.  A little exposure to the sun does have it’s benefits, plus an occasional visit to the tanning salon is a good way to get started.  Then, maintain the base tan with sunless tanning lotions that you can safely use at home.  Never overdo it.  Be smart.

Check your body monthly for unusually appearing or growing moles. And,when you’re checking your body for skin cancer moles, please check your scalp, too.

Wreck It Ralph Movie Review by Alex Anderson

What I think about this movie… I think it was hilarious and it was very touching. But I don’t think it would be for children under 5 . Why? There are bugs that are robots and I think that they will scare the pants off the little ones. I give it 5 stars…it is fantastic!

Since nowadays my baking projects are at an all time minimum (ahh, remember when I used to bake every weekend??), I must reserve breaking Paleo for special occasions and/or irresistible flavor combos just screaming to be whipped up. My friends and family are all aware that with my recent pregnancy, I developed gestational diabetes and gained a whole new appreciation for diabetics. Of course, with the birth of my son, my diabetes disappeared, but I am now at a much higher risk for developing Type 2 diabetes in my future. Not only is Coconut Oil good for controlling your bloodsugar, it’s also good for helping to manage your weight. YAY!! Why? Because of it’s effects on your metabolism. Coconut oil primarily consists of medium-chain fatty acids. These triglycerides can speed up the metabolism because they are so easily digested and converted into energy.
